Meet the Panto Cast!

The Annual DCU Drama Panto is back, and bigger than ever, with the onstage premiere of “Freshers: The Musical”. After enjoying success at 2018’s Battle of The Cams, Sean Kennedy has adapted the short into a full length extravaganza featuring the best songs Broadway has to offer, and the best puns this side of Vine.
Following Patsy, Hazel Wood, Terence Larkin and a range of other colourful DCU students, this show chronicles the true struggles of First Years; clingy mams, getting the shift at Shite Night and figuring out exactly how Communications students spend their days. Heartwarming as it is hilarious, let the show bring you back to the first time you stepped through the doors of the Henry Grattan or Pats Library. A much needed end of semester tradition, coming to you this Week 11.

Patsy – Charlotte Cautley

“My name is Charlotte Cautley, I’m a second year Communications student. My characters name is Patsy and what I like most about her is that she doesn’t let anything, such as her controlling mother or her own awkwardness, get in the way of experiencing college life to its full potential. This is my second show with DCU Drama as I took part in Book of Mormon at intervarsities last year. I’ve been in a good few shows outside of DCU including excerpts from Mamma Mia, Les Miserables and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, however this is my first time being a lead in anything so pretty nerve wrecking! My panto experience has been better than I ever thought it would, the bond that the cast and the production team have is amazing and I look forward to rehearsals every night with them, I don’t want it to end! I can’t pick one favourite musical theatre song but Dead Girl Walking from Heathers is definitely up there”.

Joyce – Catherine Kane

“My name is Cat and I am a 3rd year B.Rel.Ed student. I’m so honored to play Joyce in this years panto. I love this part because it is so different from anything I’ve ever done and getting to play a villain is always a good shout! I have been involved in drama since the age of six and have gotten so many opportunities from DCU Drama over the last three years from being on committee to directing to being involved in two pantos as a cast member. This years panto has been the highlight of my year, the cast and crew have worked so tirelessly and the effort put in is second to none. Im so proud of my panto family and I hope you enjoy the show as much as we have. Favourite musical song?….oooofffff…. Dance 10 Looks 3 from A Chorus Line!”.

Drug Dealer #1 a.k.a Jack – Robert Kenny

“My name is Rob and I’m a 2nd year arts student in pats. I am playing Jack the number 1 drug dealer. It is incredibly to just let loose and act the maggot. My favourite part about him is his resoursefullness, has a kinder egg capsule full of anything you need right up his arse. I was involved in the magnificent production of Romeo and Juliet last year and it was the most fun I had in first year. Working on the panto has been really amazing, singing and dancing is a whole new experience to me. I have fallen in love with Hello! from the ‘Book of Mormon’ while working on the panto”.

Drug Dealer #2 a.k.a Slats – Conor O’Neill

“My name is Conor O’Neill, I’m a  first year Communication Studies and my Character Name: Slatts What I like about my character: He’s passionate about gardening. Have I been involved in shows before: Yes, I did a lot of shows in secondary school including Lord of the Flies in TY and Les Mis in 6th year. What has Panto been like: a lot of laughs, a lot of work, and a whole lot of choreography Fave musical song: ‘My Shot’ from Hamilton”.

The Showwoman – Ciara O’Leary

“My name is Ciara O’Leary and I’m in my first year of Communications. My character is The Showwoman, and I love how much she believes she’s above everyone else, it’s so fun to play. I’ve been in a few musicals before, getting to play Sylvia in All Shook Up and my favourite, Joanne in RENT. Panto has been the most perfect thing for me to be involved with my first semester in DCU. It’s a mix of my 2 favourite things: Musicals and great people. There’s always such a good energy and support around rehearsals and I’m buzzing to get on stage with everyone! Favourite musical theatre song: Seasons of Love from RENT.”

Hazel Wood – Aoife Keogh

“My name is Aoife Keogh and I am 2nd year BEd student! I play Hazel Wood! What I like most about Hazel is that she always speaks her mind unapologetically! I started getting more involved in theatre in TY when I played Grace Farrell in Annie for my TY musical, ever since then I can’t get a enough of it! In the past few years I’ve played a variety of lead and chorus roles upon stages such as The Helix, The Smock Alley, The Olympia and The Board Gais Energy Theatre! Some of my favourite roles include Sharpay in HSM, Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, Velma Von Tussle in Hairspray, Marty in Grease and Sillabub in CATS! Hilarious, unforgettable, iconic.  My favourite musical theatre song is Suddenly Seymour- Little Shop of Horrors / Santa Fe Reprise- Newsies”.

Terrence Larkin – Cameron Kelly

Cameron Kelly is in E.P.L in 1st year and plays Terrence Larkin. “I love how brash, honest and quirky he is, and never afraid to step on peoples toes when he has something to say which is quite funny. I’m a member of Phoenix Productions Thurles and have been for 8 years and played roles such as Mr.Mistofelles in Cats 2017 and the Wolf in Into the woods 2018. Panto has been an absolute pleasure, so much fun with a group of such funny energetic and positive group of people. I wouldn’t change a thing. My favourite musical song is Land of Lola – Kinky Boots.”

Aileen – Daniel Cox

“My name is Daniel Cox, and I’m a 3rd year Biotechnology student. My characters name is Aileen Larkin, she’s the mother of Terrence Larkin in the show. What I like about her is that she’s very… eccentric. She’s an outrageous character in all her scenes so it’s very fun to play her and be a bit mad on stage. I’ve been in shows since 2014 with the Arts Centre back where I’m from in Mullingar. I’ve done Les Mis, Cats, Phantom and Hairspray there along with a few plays and pantos from 2014-2017. In DCU, I’ve been involved with the Drama society since first year in 2016, doing plays like Jerusalem and Othello and last year’s musical, Sweeney Todd. The panto has been good fun! It’s a very self aware and over the top show so rehearsals are more chilled then some of the other things I’ve done. That isn’t to say there’s no tough parts, some of the choreography I can’t get for the life of me. But, in general, it’s been great. Fav. Musical song is currently Why God Why from Miss Saigon. Breaks my heart </3”

Sandy Wood – Bella Finn

“My name is Bella Finn and I am in my second year of Journalism. My characters name is Sandy Wood and I aspire to have her level of sass when I’m 40 odd. She’s just there for a good time. I am a veteran for Musical Theatre. I have been doing musicals since I was 3 and my favourite credits include: Rizzo from Grease, Ursula from the Little Mermaid, Sharpay in High School Musical and Madame Thenardier in Les Miserables. My Panto experience so far has been overwhelmingly welcoming. This is my first show with DCU Drama and I am happy to be a part of it.”

Henry Gratten – Cathal McDonnell

“My name is Cathal McDonnell and I am in 4th year Marketing, Innovation & Technology. My characters name is Henry Gratten. I guess I like the fact that he puts on this mask in public but once you get to know him you realize he has a kind heart and I think there’s a bit of Henry in everyone. This is my first show in DCU, I’ve always wanted to do the shows in DCU but something always got in the way. I’m final year now and thought fuck it it’s now or never. I’ve had an amazing time doing the show and everybody has been so nice to me. I feel like I’ve come away with a lot more new friends than I thought I would. My favourite musical theatre songs gotta be Stars from Les Mis. I would love to play Inspector Javert one day!”
