How many shows do you put on each year?

Each year we put on 6 shows. In semester one we have a Monologue Series (in place of our usual Gig Theatre Piece!), a Contemporary Play, and a Panto. In semester two, we have a Member Production, a second Contemporary Play, and a Musical. We also take part in the All-Ireland Musical Theatre Intervarsities Competition.

What is an EGM?

An EGM is an Extraordinary General Meeting. It is where we’ll be announcing our events and shows for the year, introducing our committee, and electing our First Year Rep. If you want to know more about getting involved with DCU Drama, make sure you come along!

What is a First Year Rep?

A First Year Rep is a committee member who will encourage First Years to participate in DCU Drama’s events and shows. The position will be up for grabs at our upcoming EGM and must be held by a DCU Fresher.

How can I get involved in a production?

We hold auditions at the start of each semester to cast our productions. Semester one auditions take place after our EGM, while semester two auditions take place after Christmas. Auditions for our Musical take place in the last week of semester one.

What kind of events do you run?

We run weekly Drama Wednesday events. We have Open Mic and Karaoke Nights, as well as workshops in all areas of theatre such as dance, tech, and writing.

What are your plans for running events and shows with COVID-19 guidelines?

We are doing our best to coordinate on-campus events this year, but of course, everything is subject to COVID restrictions. We will be running events, such as our EGM and Auditions Week, online until restrictions allow otherwise! Any in-person events will follow strict guidelines to ensure the safety of all members.

Are there any writing opportunities?

Yes! We run writing workshops (there’s three on our socials right now!) and over summer all members have the opportunity to submit their scripts to be chosen for our shows. Each year we look for a Panto, a Member Production, and a 20-minute Musical Theatre Intervarsities piece.

Where do you put on your events and shows?

We run our events and shows on both Glasnevin Campus and St. Pats Campus. All shows take place on campus but might move online this year!

Do you have to be a performer to join? Can I just work behind the scenes?

Not at all! There are opportunities to be on production teams, to work with the Tech Team, and with the Front of House Team. We’ll be running tech and production team workshops to show you the ropes! No matter what your experience or if you prefer backstage work, there is a place for you in DCU Drama!
